Meet the Owner

Sonya Hickey

Sonya Hickey is an educator, lifelong learner, wife, mother and grandmother! Mrs. Hickey is a proud Detroiter. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Education and is the founder and Director of Village of Shiny Stars (VOSS) Childcare Center.. Mrs. Hickey is a solid pillar in the community, providing quality early childhood services and programs to the Brightmoor Community where she has worked diligently with local community leaders, partners, and sister childcare providers to bring early childhood resources, which includes launching and hosting an educational conference exclusively for childcare business owners and directors. She is the recipient of numerous grants.

With over 15 years of successfully owning and operating VOSS, Mrs. Hickey has positioned VOSS as a successful entity with many satisfied customers and demands for expansion and a second location in Inkster, MI.

Our mission is to provide a stimulating early care and educational experience that will prepare each child for becoming a lifelong learner. We strive to keep a nurturing, secure and healthy environment in which children can bloom into responsible, considerate and contributing members of
their community. We value every member of our team and encourage professional and personal growth
through continuing educational opportunities. Village of Shiny Stars is a parent participating child care center that is dedicated to making sure it has a strong child -parent- teacher partnership..

Vision

Our vision is to become the first and only choice for parents who are looking for learning and growth in all forms, social involvement, education, and play. Our early educator professionals go beyond and above the highest level of quality, through extensive trainings annually, certifications, and experience that goes beyond the state requirements. We believe that all children can learn. We strive to offer a variety of settings that will stimulate and embrace a child’s various abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles.

Philosophy

Village of Shiny Stars Child Care Center follows a developmentally appropriate program that stresses to enhance and better prepare the “whole child”. To develop the “whole child”, teachers at Village of Shiny Stars Child Care Center will incorporate play into every aspect of the curriculum; with a specific focus on physical, cognitive, language, and social and emotional development. Our program is designed to foster self-esteem, self-confidence, and competence in self-help skills.

The Best Daycare

Village of Shiny Stars Child Care Center offers childcare from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. We offer a well-balanced morning snack, lunch and supper. At our Village, we provide the best service in the area, and come with a personal touch such as providing eye opening field trips and scholarships.
